Former Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receivers Update

Several former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers have been making headlines recently, with notable player movements and injury updates impacting their careers and future prospects.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Released by New England Patriots

JuJu Smith-Schuster, who had a brief stint with the New England Patriots, was released on Tuesday. Smith-Schuster's time in New England was short-lived, and he is now in search of another team that will capitalize on his talents.

Washington Commanders Sign Martavis Bryant

In an effort to strengthen their receiving corps, the Washington Commanders signed Martavis Bryant. Known for his speed and big-play ability, Bryant is expected to be a valuable addition to the team. The Commanders are counting on his talent to enhance their offensive options.

Chase Claypool's Injury Woes Continue

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills have placed Chase Claypool on injured reserve due to a toe injury he sustained on July 28. Initially described as "day-to-day" by Bills head coach Sean McDermott, the severity of Claypool’s condition now raises concerns that he may miss the entire 2024 season.

"It's a shame because [some new players have] missed a considerable amount of time – Chase being one of them," McDermott commented, expressing his disappointment. "It's just hard to evaluate when the players aren't out there, whether it's Chase or anybody."

Claypool's Stellar Start and Recent Struggles

Claypool, who was picked by the Steelers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, had an impressive rookie season, scoring 11 touchdowns, and becoming the first rookie in Steelers franchise history to score four touchdowns in a single game. However, his performance witnessed a notable decline in the subsequent seasons.

In 2021, Claypool managed just two touchdown catches. He was traded to the Chicago Bears before the trade deadline in 2022 but could only muster one touchdown through Pittsburgh's first eight games of the 2022 season. Moreover, while playing for the Bears and Dolphins last year, Claypool caught just eight of 21 targets.

"I know he's fighting like crazy to get back, and we're anxious to have him back," McDermott noted, highlighting Claypool’s determination to recover. "He's been a good teammate, worked hard, been focused, made plays out there and I think that'll continue as we move forward. We're happy to have him."

Buffalo Bills Trade Stefon Diggs to Houston

In another significant move, the Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs to Houston, putting more pressure on their receiving lineup. Claypool, despite his challenges, earned praise during spring practices with the Bills. As a 26-year-old receiver with a promising start to his career, his return remains highly anticipated by the team and fans alike.
