As the New York Giants surge towards their playoff ambitions, one player making headlines is second-year wide receiver Jalin Hyatt. In just his second NFL season, Hyatt has emerged as a critical asset, showing marked improvement and resilience on the field.
Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, Hyatt has been focused on enhancing his physique to endure the demands of the NFL. Gaining weight has been a particular challenge for Hyatt, who admits, "It's definitely hard for myself (to gain weight). Some guys, it's easier for them to gain weight or gain muscle. For myself, it's harder. I burn a lot of calories quick. I'm just one of those guys that's got to just keep eating."
One unique addition to his diet has been Uncrustables, the popular frozen, individually wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Hyatt explained his dietary strategy, highlighting the importance of consistent and complete meals. "PB&J's was one of my biggest things, because you want to eat your full meal. You don't want to eat a little bit and drink a protein shake. Then you're not really getting anything. So, for myself, finishing, completing your full meals, and then, an hour later or 30 minutes later, that's when you put in an Uncrustables or a PB&J or a little protein shake," he shared.
Selected in the third round out of Tennessee, Hyatt has quickly justifed the Giants' investment. His on-field performances have been nothing short of impressive. During Week 2 of the 2023 season, Hyatt showcased his exceptional skill with a pivotal 58-yard reception that contributed significantly to the Giants' narrow three-point victory over the Cardinals.
Hyatt's contributions continued through Week 7, where he recorded two catches for 75 yards in New York's 14-7 win against the Commanders. However, his standout performance came in Week 12, where he achieved his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL. This milestone was crucial in the Giants' tight victory over the Patriots, underscoring Hyatt's ability to perform under pressure.
Reflecting on his goals, Hyatt emphasized the importance of team success. "For me, I always set high expectations. Just looking at our team, looking at what we got—for goals, I just want a team goal. We have a playoff team. That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there," he asserted. His commitment to the team's aspirations is evident in both his words and his actions on the field.
The Giants' playoff hopes are being steered by a collective effort, but the emergence of Jalin Hyatt as a reliable and dynamic playmaker has certainly brightened their prospects. As the season progresses, Hyatt's continued development—both physically and in terms of his on-field contributions—will be pivotal in the Giants' quest for postseason glory. With his dedication and impressive performance, it’s clear that Hyatt is not just meeting expectations, but setting new ones for himself and his team.
